They say that timing is everything! A woman named Lydia would agree.
Lydia was a busy working woman with a full schedule. She held an important role in her world and in her social circle. Her vocation was in textiles…fine cloth fit for the wealthy and the powerful. Walking down the street, Lydia likely appeared a woman with her act together, living her life to its fullest potential.
Yet under the surface a part of her world remained un-settled. It involved her personal spiritual journey. Lydia desired a relationship with God but knew she didn’t have all the pieces to the puzzle. She felt empty. She was seeking. So each Saturday she met with other seeking women just outside of town and together they sought to find God to the best of their ability.
It was on one of those Saturday meetings that a man named Paul approached their group and engaged the women in conversation. In that moment of truth, at just the right time, Lydia found the piece of the puzzle she was missing. Paul introduced her to the Savior, Jesus Christ.
Paul told her how we have all separated ourselves from God through our wrong behaviors and attitudes…we have all sinned. And the result of our sin is death, eternal separation from God. But God loves people so deeply He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to come to earth and live a perfect life, and then die on a cross to pay for our sins completely. On the third day after His death, Jesus rose from the dead proving He was God in the exercise of His great power. Paul told Lydia that a relationship with God is a gift that we can all enjoy personally through simply trusting in Jesus Christ’s payment for our sins through His death on the cross.
As Lydia placed her trust in Jesus Christ, God began the process of aligning her every-day priorities under her new eternal relationship with Christ. Though life here on earth can never be perfect, Lydia could now live her life to its fullest potential. This was possible because the most important aspect of her life, her spiritual life, was at last complete in Christ Jesus. She was whole.
Are you still spiritually seeking for that missing piece to the puzzle? Timing is everything. Is now the right time for you to make the decision of belief…placing your trust in the death of Jesus Christ as the payment of your sins?
Jesus Christ is central to living life to its fullest potential. Our hope is, as you are ”given the time” each day, God will lead you forward in your relationship with Him allowing you, like Lydia, to live your busy every-day life perfectly aligned under a relationship with Jesus Christ.
The following Scripture is a great way to meditate on the great love of the Father in sending His Son to save us from our sins.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
